Can You Purchase A Home With One Persons Credit and Another's Income?-  In this particular situation, the parents are needing to be moved into the home with the child and their spouse.  The kids had a business failure so the credit is not good but have income.  The parents have good credit but no income. When you in a situation like this, everyone has to be on the loan and qualify for the debt and income.  You can't usually co-mingle the income and debt.  If you use the persons income you have to use their credit.  

As time goes on your credit history gets older.  Make sure you pay your bills on time and work on improving it.  In 3-4 years they will see how bill paying and credit has improved and they are more likely to take a risk on you.
